Select USA

The SelectUSA, an initiative developed by President Barack Obama to promote foreign companies business in the United States, organized for the first time an event in South America in late August. About 20 businessmen and representatives of American states and cities presented to potential Brazilian investors the opportunities and benefits of opening or expanding business in the United States.

The event was organized by the American Consulate in São Paulo in partnership with Amcham-Brasil and had as main speakers Henrique Meirelles, president of the Council of JBS, and Caito Maia, CEO of Chilli Beans, which raised the successful case of the expansion plan of their companies in the United States.


Exploring Business in Brazil: Sectors and Projects

The American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil (Amcham) with the support of the Brazilian Government and local partners is proud to invite you to the seminar “Exploring business with Brazil: Sectors, Projects and Opportunities” . Get first-hand information on how Brazil is fostering its own “innovation economy” and explore opportunities for partnership, collaboration and business expansion to the largest economy and consumer market in Latin America.

Trade Missions: How To do Business and Invest in Brazil / TI and Startups

Occurred between the 10th and 17th of May 2014 the How To do Business and Invest in Brazil Road-Show in the USA. In this opportunity the delegation went to Washington (DC), Seattle (WA) and Los Angeles (CA). The main objective was to introduce the Brazilian business market and environment to American investors and entrepreneurs.

The delegation was composed by the partners of the project, Pinhão & Koiffman Advogados and Machado Meyer Advogados and the investing promotion agencies Investe São Paulo (São Paulo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency) and  AGDI (Rio Grande do Sul Development Agency), beyond Apex (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) that participated as Amcham’s partner.

The participation of the American executives during the events surprised the delegation since they demonstrated a great interested in starting and conducting a business in Brazil.

The events in Washington (DC) and Seattle (WA) also counted with the participation of the IT and Startup delegation, another trade mission organized by Amcham Brasil in the same week, composed by medium and large companies in the IT sector. This delegation was comprised with very good companies, as Algar Tech, Stefanini, AutoDoc, 2gather, BVZ Digital, Conquest One, Incube and HTP Solution. The executives of this delegation attended the Seminars of the How to do business and invest in Brazil project and also visited companies, incubators and accelerators as Microsoft, Google and Inrix in both cities, and in San Francisco (CA).

Amcham Brasil launched in the USA the new project that will be developed in the second semester of this year, the Trade Mission – Exploring Opportunities in Agribusiness, Infrastucture and Information Technology in Brazil, scheduled for September. This trade mission is unprecedented in Amcham, because it will be done in Brazil, introducing different opportunities on investment in the country, especially in Infrastructure, IT and Agribusiness, an immersion in the Brazilian market. The event will feature a Seminar in São Paulo, and it will continue with visits to major hubs of each sector highlighted, including cities where Amcham is strongly present.

The agribusiness trade mission to United States opened doors for potential investments and partnerships in the state of Goiás. From February 22nd  to March 5th, the program organized by Amcham - Brazil showed the market in the Midwest region for entrepreneurs, investors and American researchers .
The delegation was composed by the Secretary of Agriculture of the State of Goiás, Antônio Flávio de Lima, the executive secretary of PromoGoiás , from the Industry and Commerce Secretariat, Leantho Limírio Gonçalves; representatives of the Midwest Dry Port, the food company Alca Foods; and Hermano Advogados Associados.

They performed for entrepreneurs in Houston (Texas) and Saint Louis (Missouri), for companies which have an interest in food production in the region.

The delegation had meetings at companies like Tyson Foods, the largest food processors in the world (which, in Brazil, has operations in the south); Walmart, the largest retailer in the world , and Monsanto (which brings together cutting-edge research to agriculture).

The Municipal River Terminal of Saint Louis and the port of Houston, one of the main ports in the U.S. was on the agenda.

The Brazilians also met with executives of machinery and livestock at the trade that occurs with the Houston Rodeo, the largest in the world.

Innovation and Green Technology

In late October , two delegations of Brazilian entrepreneurs with specific business goals went to the United States,  in a mission organized by AmCham - Brazil ( American Chamber of Commerce ).

One of the groups, presented  the Brazilian innovation and technology market to the American investors, with the aim of attracting investment, while the other group met the best practices in clean energy on a chain that is considered a global benchmark.

On the Innovation and Technology Trade Mission, took part in the delegation: the president of Investe São Paulo, Luciano Almeida; the director of Campinas City Hall, Mariana Pfitzner; the general manager of Apex Brazil in San Francisco, Sérgio Pessoa; in addition to the offices RPSN Advogados, Pinhão & Koiffman Advogados, and ESPM. In cities like Washington, San Francisco and Austin, they discussed opportunities for mergers and acquisitions laws in Brazil, IT regulations and public relationship with global brands, among others.

On the Green Technology Trade Mission were: representatives of Leão Alimentos e Bebidas, Algar , Construtivo , WTS Brasil, Lealtini Inovações Industriais and the Energy State Secretariat of São Paulo.

On the agenda, there were meetings and visits in Washington, Portland and San Francisco. They had seminars and business meetings at the U.S. Chamber, ACORE (American Council On Renewable Energy) and the Embassy of Brazil , among others.

Infrastructure and Logistics

The Amcham Brazil took , in June , large Brazilian companies to know the American experience in infrastructure and logistics. Executives of the Odebrecht , Cisa Trading and Santos Brasil participated in meetings with entrepreneurs and investors , in order to meet infrastructure solutions in ports and airports.

During this period, entrepreneurs participated in visits to ports, airports, and meetings with other U.S. industry companies in Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia. Besides those already mentioned, the mission was attended by representatives of Olex, CEILOG (Totvs Group), Santander and law offices like BM&A and Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice Advogados.

Amcham also held seminars on opportunities in Brazil , for audiences of businessmen and American investors.

National Launching Event

Rubens Gama, director of the Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of External Relations attended the launching of five new titles in the How To Do Business and Invest in Brazil project, on August 29th, during a lunch at Amcham - São Paulo.

Also attended the launching event: the Consul General of Mexico in Sao Paulo, Jose Gerardo Hernández Traslosheros; the Consul General of Peru in Sao Paulo, Jorge Arturo Jarama; the Deputy Consul General of the United States in Sao Paulo, Samantha Carl – Yoder; accompanied by the Vice Consul, Thomas Hanson; the Commercial Consul, Steve Knode; and the Deputy Consul General of Argentina, Valdo Palmai.

In 2012, Brazil was the world's third largest recipient of direct investment, with $ 67 billion. In 2011 were $ 65 billion and the forecast for this year, according to the ambassador, is to surpass US$ 60 billion again.

The How To series includes 33 publications that cover relevant topics on doing business in Brazil, such as labor law, taxation, legal structure, financial system, branding, infrastructure and Brazilian states, among others.

The five new titles are How to understand IT law in Brazil; How to build labor force in Brazil; How to perform an M & A in Brazil, How to understand litigation in Brazil and How to invest in Minas Gerais. They were produced, respectively, in partnership with Pinhão & Koiffman Advogados; Granadeiro Guimarães Advogados; RPSN Advogados; Teixeira, Martins Advogados, and Integrated Development Institute of Minas Gerais.

Lauching Event

On November 8th, the American Chamber launched the "How To Business and Invest in Brazil 2012/2013."  The event took place at the Royal Tulip Hotel in Brasília and it had an attendance of around 100 guests. In this event, nine titles had renewed its sponsorship. Moreover, the chamber launched five new titles, one in partnership with the Government of Goiás, three sectorial titles, including the first title of Marketing & Sales, and the Brazil Highlights. At this event, representatives of MDIC, MRE and the States of PE and GO, lectured on "Productive investments in Brazil, how the Federal Government and the State Governments are working on attracting foreign capital and business promotion". The event also launched the guides on Brazil Global Net website.

Launch of How To invest in Paraná guide

Strengthening the reintegration of the State of Paraná in the national and international investment scenario, Amcham Curitiba promoted, on April 26th, How to Invest in Paraná Investor’s Guide Launching Event. With an audience of 92 attendees, the event had the presence of the Governor of Paraná, Beto Richa, Secretaries of State, Consular Representatives, Associations and key members of Paraná’s private sector.

How To Mission (USA)

2012 brings us great expectations. The recovery of the USA economy and Brazil’s position as the country with the best conditions for growth among the BRICs, make this year even more special. And it is in this favorable context that the third Road Show of "How To do Business and Invest in Brazil"  is inserted. In synergy with the Ministry of External Relations, our group will join the delegation of President Dilma Roussef in Washington in April, and will later hold seminars in Boston and New York. This in an unique opportunity to expose Brazil as a showcase for great business.

Lauching Event

On September 31st ,the American Chamber of Commerce in Brazil launched the series "How to do Business in Brazil 2011/2012". The event took place in Golden Tulip Hotel in Brasília and it had the participation of 100 guests, divided among sponsors, guests and government representative. There were also two new projects releases, "How to Invest in Paraná" and "How to Invest in São Paulo". Moreover, the chamber launched the publication in mandarin which was developed for the Brazil-China event, the official mission from Brazil´s president, Dilma Rousseff to China in 2011. Ambassador Norton Rapesta and the Secretary of Foreign Trade of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Tatiana Prazeres, made a lecture about "The promotional acts and the attract of investments to Brazil", as well as "The foreign Trade policies of the "Plano Brasil Maior" (a program to increase the competitiveness of industry in Brazil) and the impact of this project in the attraction of investments to Brazil".  The event had the signature of MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) which formalized the partnership among American Chamber of Commerce and Itamaraty.

How To Mission (USA)

"The Brazilian market, with its growth projections as well as the opportunities presented by the exploration of the country’s pre-salt layer and the international sports events (World Cup/ Summer Olympics) are of great interest for investors", says Camila Moura - international affairs manager at Amcham Brazil, who organized the 2nd mission delegation from November 14th to 17th.

With the goal of reaching potential investors, the project counted with 140 attendees in the cities of Charlotte, Miami and Houston, where short seminars by sector experts were presented in order to guarantee a better understanding of Brazil’s legal and procedural aspects.   

This edition counted with the presence of Investe São Paulo, SEGOV-PE (State of Pernambuco) and Machado Meyer, Sendacz and Opice Advogados partners of AmCham titles in "How to invest in São Paulo", "How to invest in Pernambuco" and "How to manage corporate taxes" respectively.

Launching Event

On September 27th, the second cocktail happed and launched  the "How to do business in Brazil 2010". The event had 100 participants among Amcham´s associated, sponsors and government representative, and it took place at Amcham headquarters in São Paulo. The event included a lecture from Amcham´s CEO, Gabriel Rico, that talked about" Foreign investments in Brazil: Optimism and Cautin" followed by Mr. José Virgilio L. Enei,  infrastructure partner of Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados, lecture entitled" Participation of foreign companies in public private partnership and bids". The last lecture was about "Prospects for growth and participation of foreign capital in the transportation and distribution", it was done by Mr. Fernando Medeiros, Logistics director of McLane. During the event Amcham also launched the first International Event in the United States.

How to Mission (USA)

Brazil has increasingly been recognized for it´s outstanding  economical development. More than a perception in the international market, this is a reality verified by the sponsors of the "How To Do Business in Brazil" project during a recent mission to the US, organized by Amcham between May 17th and 21st  to promote to Americans a strategic information on investment opportunities in the country. During the mission there were three events, organized by Amcham and its partners in New York, Houston and Miami, which gathered an audience of about 160 attendees at the seminar "Doing Business with Brazil," led mostly by the project sponsors, including topics such as "Establishing a company and understandingin litigation in Brazil", "Doing government Contracts in Brazil" and "Understanding environmental law in Brazil".

Launching Event

The American Chamber of Commerce in Brazil has launched the series called "How to do Business in Brazil 2009" on the September 3rd. It was shown to the public during a cocktail in São Paulo that had a total of 150 guests divided by Amcham´s associated, sponsors and government representative. The event´s theme was "Perspectives of Foreign Investments in Brazil" and it included a lecture by Norton Rapesta Embassor and Mr. Luis Afonso Lima, SOBEET´s president.
